Dear LJfolks:

Is there a name for the moment in time when an object thrown upward ceases its upward motion and just before it begins to fall? I need a time identification, not a location identification: "apogee" and the like don't quite fit, and it is driving me crazy.

Thanks. :)

Damn; apogee is what came to mind. Moment of equilibrium?

From a physics standpoint, the answer is no. The time designation for a free-fall (which is what that it, technically) in that situation is 1/2t. It's just half of the total flight time.

What's the context that you need to use the word in?

I suppose "zenith" is also a location identifier? Vertex? Apex? The best I seem to be coming up with for time is "moment of suspension."

Mathematically, it is the critical point in the height-time flight path. (It is not, however, an inflection point; the second derivative is constant.)
