While I'm still pondering the annoyances of my roommate, let me say this:

If you read "Cinderella" to your child, but won't let them go see the Harry Potter movie because it includes witchcraft and magic, you are a hypocrite.

Thank you, drive by.

or...if you don't fuel your child's imagination with stories of magic, how will you ever sell them on the bible?

Society accepts Cinderella because it's been around for some time. After a while I think people will accept Harry Potter too, it's just a matter of time.

the bible teaches the strongest form of magic there is. "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains..."

(even i, a witch, knows that much about the bible. sheesh.)

This could prompt a very very long rant.

It just might.

For now, I will content myself with:

What? I'm sorry? Did you think you were making sense?

my big question is this - what the fuck is wrong with witchcraft and magic? maybe I *have* been out of the shadow of the church long enough that I don't see a problem with some imagination and non-Church-Issued Sufficiently Advanced Technology?

oh, right, witchcraft is supposed to be the work of the devil or some other such bullshit. i despise intolerant religions, really, I do. =P

Well yes, that IS the problem that people have with magic, it is supposed to come from the devil. Note this is magic, not whichcraft (as in wicca), which falls under the 'worsiping false gods' part, the widely quoted "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" can also be translated as "Thou shalt not suffer a poisener to live", yeah translation.

Then again, false relgions (ie anything but your sect of christianity) are supposed to also be devil inspired, so I guess there is no real difference.

Query, if God is all powerful why does he A) put up with the devil doing all this stuff to turn his people astray and B) why does it matter if we worship him or not. The religions where belif strengthens the Gods actually give you a reason to pray to them (to conquer evil Gods), but God is already gonna kick the devil's ass when he feels like it, why, then, does he need humanities support?
