Carrying out the morning rituals, she watches them. Something she has missed tugs at the edges of her attention, worrying away a moment here, a moment there, driving her to distraction. A glance between the twins, a silent understanding that excludes her, leaves her trembling, unable to comprehend why she feels herself suddenly cheated. And so the day slips by, and after dinner she takes her son on her lap, Arienh nestling close, and tries to ignore their watchfulness and hide her own as she sings to them the wombsongs they have always known.
