Welcome to manned spaceflight, China.

I wish that it was the US putting another crew into space right now. It is deeply satisfying, however, to know that someone has. It's too much to hope for, I suppose, that the vastness of space would preclude Earth-spawned power struggles, that the act of breaking free would instantly confer brotherhood's closeness minus brotherhood's squabbles. Still, welcome to a slightly altered standing and a higher level of achievement. Welcome to the serious and acknowledged service of the dream.

Huzzah! They did it! (Or would saying "Yatta!" be closer to accurate?) I agree with you-- I'm sorry it's not us continuing to explore spaceflight in meaningful ways. The disintigration of the US space program is really depressing-- there are things we could do, things we could learn, and we're just not doing them. And the Russians lack the money to do much. Maybe the Chinese will have better success. If we can't get up the gumption to do space exploration, someone should.
