Remember those encyclopedias I wanted? Really really wanted?

I've got the first set, the Collier's Junior set I loved most. Hello again, Caddie Woodlawn. Hello again, little fennec and djinns. And for *much* less than I thought I'd have to pay to replace them. Like, the shipping is almost more than the books.

I also own a violin again for the first time in years. I decided I didn't fight tooth and nail for the chance to learn back in high school, only to give it up after graduation. So... I picked up a little 3/4 violin, just about as old as I am. Hopefully, that's a good sign that we'll get on well together.

Why yes, I'm happy. Why do you ask?

And hooray for your violin. Part of me wishes I could pick up the cello again. I found a taped thing I did for a competition. Apparently, I really was good. Who knew? But maybe I'll get serious about the guitar or the banjo instead...

And I'm jealous. I wanted the cello too, but I'd wanted to play the violin since I was four or so. So that one took precedence.

Caddie Woodlawn!!!!

I don't know anyone else who read that book. I loved it, and not just because she had red hair :) She was so brave!

*grins.* Caddie Woodlawn was the last book my father ever read to me. I was three, and he was rushing through it, like grownups are tempted to do when they're tired after a long day at work. He skipped a few passages, and when I couldn't take it anymore, I took the book out of his hands and protested, "that's not the way it goes, Daddy!" He said "no? well, how does it go, then?" And I read the story to him. After that, well, the secret was out that I could read, and so I read my own bedtime stories. *wrysmile.*
