Dear C,

Even though I haven't met you, I felt it important that I write you this letter.

My husband, Tony Perkins, is a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate.

I'm writing you for another reason, though. I want to share with you my heart
as a wife and mother of four.

I'm sure you know how the liberal Democrat Senators in Washington (like Mary
Landrieu) have constantly opposed President Bush's agenda at every turn.

I know Tony's heart and motives more than anyone, and I know that he wants to go
to Washington, D.C. for just one reason: To represent Louisiana's conservative values. He'll
fight for a smaller federal government, lower taxes, conservative judges, traditional moral
and family values including protecting the unborn.

Tony will fight hard to reduce our taxes, reduce government spending and reduce
government regulation of our lives and our small businesses.

He knows how hard it is for so many Louisiana families to make ends meet. Of course, a
big part of the problem is that the government takes far too much of your paycheck in
taxes to finance thousands of wasteful government programs.

Tony also feels strongly that we need to stop the flood of illegal aliens coming into our
country.

And he will strongly support President Bush's strong law and order judicial nominations
that Mary Landrieu and her friend Hillary Rodham Clinton have opposed.

But Tony will not only vote to support President Bush's program, he will help provide
national leadership to move America in a more conservative direction.

I'm so proud of Tony, because during his service in Louisiana's legislative, he has been
the author of many important laws. For instance, he:

Authored the nation's first Covenant Marriage Law;
Authored the American History Preservation Act, preventing censorship
of America's Christian Heritage;
Authored Louisiana's current statute authorizing a daily time of silent prayer in
Louisiana public schools;
Co-authored the Louisiana Partial Birth Abortion Ban;
and many more laws to help restore traditional moral values.

In fact, many well-known national conservative leaders like Dr. James Dobson,
Phyllis Schlafly, Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, Don Wildmon, Paul Weyrich,
Gary Bauer, Rev. Lou Sheldon, and our own Woody Jenkins strongly support Tony.

They know him personally and are convinced that he will be a strong voice and leader for
the conservative cause not only in the U.S. Senate but nationally.

If you knew Tony like I do - - and like these national leaders do - - I know you would do
all you could to help him get elected.

I'm hesitant to mention this but the campaign is critically short of money for last minute
advertising.

If you feel you can send a donation, please do so by clicking this link:
Perkins For Senate

You can also fax your credit card information to Tony at (225) 927-5537. We'll be able
to use your credit card donation for our advertising campaign within hours of receiving it.

Being married to Tony for 16 years, I know how strongly he believes in the need to turn
America away from the socialist path we're headed down.

Our traditional Judeo-Christian values of faith, family, community, neighborhood and
work are increasingly under attack by liberal institutions such as Hollywood, T.V., trial
lawyers and by big government liberal Democrat politicians.

Tony has several thousand volunteers helping across Louisiana, but in the closing days
we could certainly use more. So if you have time (even a few hours) during the day or
evening or on the weekend, please call (225) 273-2000.

Also if you have any questions or suggestions for Tony or me, please call us and if we're
not available, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

God Bless you and your family,
Lawana Perkins

I intend to use that number. I intend to use it to point out that her message is SPAM and that I would never vote for someone who spammed me, just on principle. I also note that no Democrats have flooded my mailbox with messages at all, let alone ones that cast derogatory aspersions on their opponents. The fact that I'm so far from being a part of her target audience just makes this even more laughable -- or it would, if it weren't so irritating. Hello? I live in North Carolina, and "Louisiana family values"conjures up mental images I'm sure she never intended.

... What kind of moron receives an unsolicited email and then faxes their credit card information to the number given in it? I'm sure you -will- be able to use my credit card information just a few hours after receiving it. That's why I'd never send it.

Feh. On a happier note, my current (allowable) word count is 4,728. I am cheating though, because I decided that I'm not writing a completely new work, I'm finishing Godseed first. I started it for NaNoWriMo last year, so I reckon I'm allowed. The story bits I've pieced into place so far come up to exactly 8,000 words, and I anticipate that the unplaced ones make up about 5,000 more -- I had no idea I'd written so much in fits and starts. I'm going to be somewhat scarce until I finish: I procured a laptop yesterday and am deliberately keeping it free of an Internet connection and any games that might distract me. I am checking in a few times a day, but knowing that the story is open and waiting upstairs seems to be working thus far. :) So maybe I will actually finish this in time to move onto the novel I'd planned on writing this month. That would be nice.

I got spammed by some Pennsylvania Democrat and was equally horrified, as I am on the complete opposite side of the continent from Pennsylvania and, like you, I would have thought that political candidates would have the shred of good sense to figure out that building themselves a reputation as spammers is very not good for their image.

Yuck. Not only was it spam, but it was offensive spam as well.
From the land of David Duke, we present Tony Perkins.
He'll never carry New Orleans, but he will probably carry everything above Baton Rouge.
Scary stuff.

Best PR manipulation ever:

Spam people with emails telling them to vote for the *other* guy.

I wonder if anyone's done it yet.

Looking at the headers on my coffee spam, I'm starting to wonder...

Got my first telemarketer today. It was from some Republican party. I listened long enough to hear "Did you know that our state has had a democrat govorner for the past 18 years?" and then hung up.

My next thought was, "Wait a minute, our damn governorship isn't even UP for re-election."

And in other Republican news, my grandfather suggested a job open for the Republican party of Washington.

On one hand, it would involve phones... on the other, it would involve allying myself with a specific political party. Gee, just what I need: someone else to do my thinking for me.

Having other people thinking for you seems to be popular with the rest of the country - what's the matter with you? Aren't you a *real* American? LOL.

heh, I'm tempted to berate them long distance from here in Canada, pretending that I got an email from their campaign :)

I found it irritating enough that the local Democrat candidate - you might have heard of him, a prick called Tony Sanchez - had someone hang a leaflet bitching about his opponent on our doorknob. If they dared ring up I'd be quite happy to tell them what I thought, and what the wider world thinks of him and his kin, too.

Eeeesh, how bloody annoying. Though I found myself having a funny thought...

... I recall back in the day there were these programs that would generate a workable credit card number and expiration date and stuff... though nowadays such things probably will get the person to use the number in trouble quickly for fraud. The thought just occured to me to fax several sets of such credit card information in various fake names from some sort of public terminal.

... but actually, I have all sorts of bad thoughts, and this is probably one of the worse ones. Still, I can't help but picture newspaper headlines talking about the wife of a Republican US Senatorial candidate getting investigated for credit card fraud in connection with her husband's campaign.
