Hrm. Got a couplefew days to catch up on... unfortunately, they're not all that interesting. ;)
I have not yet made it out to the airfield, there's been no-one willing and available to take me. I'm still hoping. In the meantime, I've played with UltraFractal a bit, with nothing resulting that I like well enough to display... and I've been lazy. Very lazy. Hopefully that will change soon too, though. I did my due diligence on the Long Ridge Writers Group, and I sent in my registration papers yesterday. Which means that my books and assignments should arrive soon, and I will have outward force acting upon me to write, already! Even if I get nothing else from the program, that should make it worth my while.
Oh, yeah. About that program.
The Breaking Into Print program is a homestudy writing course. My father brought me home their writing aptitude test a month ago -- I'd seen it before, but hadn't paid much attention. Well, I decided it couldn't hurt, and I finished it. :P Their statement was that only one in three students gets accepted; I didn't really buy it, but I figured the worst that would happen was they'd accept me without saying anything that would convince me to send money their way.
Well, they accepted me. But in the registration papers they sent, they also sent back the essay I'd submitted with my test -- and it was edited. Colour me shocked. Well-edited, too, because some of the changes suggested were things I knew were wrong when I sent it in, but I let them stand because I couldn't change them and still stay under word count.
They also sent me my mentor's resume for review. Looking at their listing of possible mentors, Taffy Cannon's not the one I'd have chosen for myself. I've my doubts about a mystery writer helping someone who's got no interest in mysteries to find her niche. But I'm stubborn, and Taffy seems pleasant enough -- we've exchanged email already, because she's responsible for the editing of my essay -- so maybe it will be all right.
I can receive college credits for the course.
Even before I verified them with the BBB, that sold me. :)
So, well. The course goals include two manuscripts ready for submission. And, as I said before, it provides outward pressure to write. So hopefully I will accomplish more than just that basic goal.
