I'm about to email one of my old bosses for business advice - the CosmeticMall folks, especially Jay, were really nice to me while I was there, and I left on good terms.

I'm feeling squicked, though, because I haven't kept in touch with them, (a couple of cards, a few months ago) and I'm worried about sounding opportunistic.

Any suggestions on how I should word this?

In other news, that first order (one lot of ties, one of scarves) is going to go in at the end of this week, and I've gotten my mother to agree that half of my 401k disbursement (which should arrive soon) is earmarked for business use. From order to delivery, the process of producing the first lot of any new design is 7-9 weeks. Samples should arrive within 3 weeks. My plan is to take that first sample of my design, as proof of quality, and a portfolio of other images, and put together a presentation that way. A month to six weeks should be plenty of time to assure myself of a market.

Update: I emailed anyway. I think I didn't do badly - but I'm still waiting for a response, so... we'll see.

I think people appreciate the opportunity to be low-cost helpful. It'll be fine.
