Been a quiet day, spent trying to shake a bad mood that settled in this morning. I might write more later, but probably not - I've had trouble finding words with my out loud voice these last days, and it doesn't look like that's changing. So instead I'm playing with UltraFractal again. Blame Dougie for this one - he told me the song title, and it was the first thing that came to mind when I was casting about for a concept.

and while I'm at it. Have you seen poemranker? I'm planning on creating "fractalranker". while for starters I'm probably only going to include mandelbrot and julia images, would you happen to have any thoughts on how you'd like things to work?

would you have any interest in alpha/prealpha-testing fractalranker when it's in "development"? It's definitely not going to be able to support anything as amazing as the above (well, I'm not going to write supporting code for it at least. layers???)

I can just barely begin to understand the descriptive file.... I understand center x/y and magnitude... don't grok angle mathematically though I suppose it's angle out of the plane somehow... then there's formula, inside, and outside... which each are linked to a file... it seems like the "entry" would actually BE the formula for the inside, and the formula for the outside... but then I don't get what the forumula is...

Side effect of UltraFractal: people who do not at all understand the math involved can sit down, play awhile with different formulae, gradients, etc, and eventually come up with an image they like. This is in large part why I stopped putting the source along with the images: I didn't feel any ownership of the source, just that I'd happened to find a pretty image. The image is all I claim, UltraFractal's nifty "default" copyright/authorship information feature aside.

The image has two layers, identical except for colouring. Yes, it does actually use more than one formula applied to the original fractal. No, I don't understand it any more than you do - in fact, you probably have a better grasp of the math than I do - thank god for the GUI, is all I can say.

Oh, and yes, I will, if you like, help with the alpha testing - I can produce much less complicated images than this one, if that's what you need. :)

I'm so impressed by your pretty pictures that I'm downloading the demo for UltraFractal, and I'm going to run it using VirtualPC! Aiya. :P

Anyway, I don't know if you'd be interested, but I found this site on learning UltraFractal while searching for the program.
