The problem with that is that eventually it dies out, and there's no-one left to understand it / perform it / tell it. You can't yell too hard at people for getting it wrong if you're never willing to explain and help them understand you. We've lost so many stories and rituals, so much history, that I think that's a bigger tragedy than people blundering.
Again, though ... that's me. I can trace my ancestry on my father's side back to the Carib Indians, who barely exist any longer, and I know there's so much there I'll never know that I wish they'd entrusted more of it to someone, even white people who didn't really get it.
