Sarah Palin is John McCain's pick for the Vice President of the United States. Now, you can help him vet her for the job!

I will say that some of the points are dumb, in my opinion. But some... yeah. Some made me sputter. She has experience because "Alaska is the closest state to Russia"?! Really? And you didn't think that was reaching just a bit? Sheesh.

What I liked about the site: unlike Sarah herself, they did not, in all the ones I looked through, throw poor Bristol to the wolves. I am angry, and disappointed to the point of disgust, both with the people on my side who brought up the rumour that Sarah faked her pregnancy, and with Sarah herself, for deciding that in the face of the rumours, protecting her daughter's privacy took second place to clearing her own name. In fact, the only sympathy I have in this goes to poor Bristol, who fucking deserved better, both from her country's other citizens and from her own mother.

Honestly, for a lot of my friends, her faking her pregnancy to protect her daughter was the much better option than what she actually did, since she was pregnant, i.e. fly from Alaska to Texas to give a political speach in the middle of a known to be high-risk pregnancy, then, when her water broke, instead of going to the hospital, giving the speach, then /after having given the speach/, /still/ not going to the hospital, but instead getting on a plane without warning the airline staff that she was about to give birth. Transferring planes in seattle, and then not even going to the hospital in Anchorage, but instead driving another hour after she'd gotten back to Alaska to go to the hospital closest to her home. If she cared that much about being at that hospital for the birth she should /never have left the state/.

If we could justify it as 'trying to get back to the state to cover up the fact that the birth date wouldn't match when she was there so she could pretend to have her daughter's child and save her daughter's reputation', we could understand it. Otherwise, she was pretty much criminally endangering the life of her child in order to give a speach and advance her career. And we try to think better than that of anyone.

You know, criminally endangering her child is what she actually did, and I have no problem with her getting pounded on it. I have real problems when we turn the spotlight on a minor child who is not, after all, the VP candidate, and who has only done what lots of other girls in this country do all the time. This needed to be a non-issue from the start, or it needed to be tackled with the focus on Sarah and with care for Bristol. That didn't happen.

How can assuming that Sarah faked her pregnancy really be the *lesser* evil to anyone when that was the one tack to take that would drag an innocent girl's name through the mud? As opposed to assuming that Sarah was highly irresponsible, which didn't accrue shame to anyone but Sarah?

I was pretty glad to see Obama go off on the press about attacking the kid today. Some things should not be done. :P
