So y'all can yell at me 'cause of the length or something. ;)

I think that's shinier than real life, courtesy of the flash. ;) But it is healthy. Negroid hair doesn't usually shine anyway, but it can and does gleam a bit.

The length seems perfect.

(I see it shine around here, but it's usually courtesy of pomade. I like it more matte, myself, looks nicer for touching that way.)

Long haired weirdo hippie freak

*ahem* It looks quite nice.

Seriously -- a nice face-framing sort of length, and very healthy.

I'm somewhat partial to natural hair.

personally, i love super-curly hair that's close-cropped. it flatters just about everyone i've seen it on, in my opinion. there's so much you can do to subtly shape it to suit your particular face.

My mother owns a small business making soap and shampoo products, so I told her about your earlier post, and she responded to me with this:

I can think of two things she could try. African-American women on my soap forums seem to like unrefined shea butter and monoi oil...

Shea butter is obtained from the pits of a tree fruit. Although most people use it in skin products, women also use it in their hair. It moisturizes and protects - even gives some UV protection - without greasing it down and getting nasty. They just melt a little pea-sized ball of it in the palm of their hand and work it through, starting at the ends and working toward the scalp (that sounds like a tedius pain in the neck though :P) Tell her that she should buy the good stuff - unrefined, and none of that prepackaged junk they sell in retail stores. http://www.oilsbynature.com/butters_top.htm sells the unrefined shea I buy in bulk - it's listed on their website as "Virgin Shea Butter". Excellent stuff. Top of the line.

Monoi De Tahiti oil is coconut oil that has been infused with gardenia flowers. Really nice stuff. African-american women on the soap forums warm it up and work it through their hair, then cover it with a warm towel and leave it on for an hour or so before washing it out. They say it not only moisturizes but the scent lasts for a long time afterwards. This is a reputable supplier, although they're kind of expensive: http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/product.asp?product_id=oilmonsctiare&searchflag=1

If she wants to try just an ounce or two first, have her email me and I'll send her samples of each.

So if you'd be interested in trying either of those, I can hook you up. From the pictures though, it looks like you're doing just fine!
