It's been an amazing five days.
The ride to Ohio went uneventfully until Cleveland. In Cleveland, someone had apparently decided that security needed to be tighter than that in NY. My bags and my person were therefore subjected to search. I didn't mind overmuch, really.. my spirits, then as now, are higher than they have been in a long time. We re-boarded the bus, and continued to Toledo.
In Toledo, minor glitch number one... my new house mate wasn't there to meet me, because the security proceedings at Cleveland had made us late. Six hours later, I was retrieved by
primis, (thanks, cher...) and spent the next hours catching up with him before we crashed. The next morning, it was off to Cleveland again for the flight out. I recognized
zorbathut much more quickly than I recognized Rik... I'd blush over that, but I'm too busy laughing at myself. So I'll just blame it on proximity and having seen a better picture of Ben than I'd had of Rik. (The story there is that it took Rik and me twenty minutes to find each other at the Toledo Greyhound station... me without my glasses and him not having seen a good pic of me, and each hoping the other would recognize us. *laugh.*) Anyway... he won, and spotted me, or I might be waiting there still.
The flight to Providence was lovely, Ben and I were met without a hitch, and then commenced one of the best weekends I've ever had. The people were wonderful, I know I made some new friends I'm definitely going to keep in touch with, and even though he didn't win, I think I can safely say the competition was worth it just for the experience. I know he didn't need much consoling over not making it further than he did.
We came home tonight, obviously, and here begins minor glitch number two... our original flight was cancelled, and we waited four hours for the next one. That being the case, transportation back to Toledo was a problem. So I'm at Oberlin for the night, will deal with going home and unpacking and laundry and all the rest of the icky grown-up stuff tomorrow, in the daylight... I'll also have lots of stories, no doubt, about the adventure this week has been.
Looking back at the replies to my last post... *hugs* and *snuggles* and thank you lots to all of you. I'm going to get around to thanking each of you personally here soon when I'm really and truly back, but until then I want you all to know that I really do understand that I've got the best friends anyone could ask for. Take care of yourselves till I can talk to you again.
